Honolulu, the capital city of Hawaii is the only what looks as much as possible urban at this group of islands. It is located on the island of Oahu, whose exotic name immediately evokes on the hula skirt, beach bars, surfing, cocktail and coconuts. Busy Honolulu is a mixture of Asian and American city.

Where is Honolulu?

Honolulu is located on the southeast side of the 3rd largest island known as Oahu.

It can be confusing keeping track of all the Hawaiian islands because, well, there are 136 of them! But luckily, there’s only 8 major islands and 7 that are populated.

What to see and where to go?

Beach Waikiki – Beach Waikiki has long been a popular tourist site. With the city skyscrapers in the background, this beach is a great place for fun. Since 2001, there were installed large screens that display movies, so you can fully enjoy the sun. Waikiki beach has something for everyone, at any time of day.

Hanauma Bay – As the most attractive place in the city, the bay is usually full of people  by the afternoon. It would be good to come in the morning, to ensure the place. Enjoy the magic of Hawaii and swim with turtles. You can rent diving equipment and experience the diverse marine life in the clear, blue waters of Hawaii.

Aloha Tower (Tower Aloha) – Tower is  ten floors high, it is located near the ocean in the port of Honolulu. Just like the role that the Statue of Liberty in New York has, and Aloha Tower welcomes hundreds of thousands of immigrants who come to Honolulu. You can enjoy the view from the lookout at the top, which is open every day, from morning until sunset. Aloha Tower is today the main complex of shops and restaurants, surrounded by the marketplace.

Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial – It is located on the island of Oahu and represents important historic sites. On 7 December 1941, the Japanese bombed the base of the Navy of the United States, Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, which led to the military involvement of the United States in the course of the Second World War. Today, after almost 70 years, about 1.5 million people visit Pearl Harbor every year.

Visit the USS Arizona Memorial. Here you can watch a documentary about the attack on Pearl Harbor, for a period of 23min and visit the museum and bookstore. Arizona Memorial was built in 1961.year above the sunken battleship USS Arizona and is dedicated to all those who died during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Even today, several decades after being submerged, oil is still leaking from the ship into the sea.

Iolani Palace – The only American royal residence built in 1882 on the site of the former palace. Jolan palace had electricity and a telephone line even before the White House. On the ground floor you can see the royal jewelry, kitchen and study. The palace remained a royal residence until January 1893, when he toppled the Hawaiian monarchy. Queen in 1895 was detained in the palace eight months. Until 1969 the palace served as the seat of the provisional government of the republic, territory and state of Hawaii. Today it is a museum.

Hula is a unique Hawaiian dance that with the help of songs keeps and maintains the story, tradition and culture of Hawaii. There are many types and styles of hula dancing. Hula auana (modern hula) dancing in the West under the influence of music and has a more modern style. It is also the most popular type of blasphemy for visitors. Hula Kahiko (ancient hula) dancing with dramatic melodies and accompaniment of percussion in traditional costumes.

Diamond Head – For people who love hiiking and active attractions, Diamond Head is a great place to visit. The view from the top is super and that is why it remains one of the most visited places in the city. 1.1 km trail takes you to the edge of the crater, and you will need about an hour to get to the top. Diamond Head is a monument protected by the state.

Water activities – With beautiful beaches and crystal clear water, you can enjoy many activities. This heavenly city turns into a real adventure, offering opportunities for surfing, looking the whales, sailing, parasailing, kayaking and rowing.

Foster Botanical Garden, the oldest botanical garden in Hawaii has an impressive collection of tropical trees. Some of the plants has planted back in 1850. Australian botanist William Hillebrand.

Shopping center Waikiki – Waikiki is a popular place for shopping. In this semi open-air shopping center you have many options for shopping available, including sweet souvenirs from Hawaii.

What to eat?

Hawaiians are especially proud of the fruits and vegetables grown on the islands, and is not treated with any pesticides. Manapua, bread rolls, chicken dishes, sausages and fried pork seasoned with curry traditional dishes. Hawaiian coffee you should definitely try and it produces every island in the archipelago, often in her adding coconut, chocolate and macadamia. Also, you shoult try Spam (known pork from cans that are in Hawaii produced since World War II ).
